BRIDAL MAKEUP WITH A SOFT SMOKEY EYE

For this look, I was very inspired by a tutorial Lisa Eldridge did on Clemence Poesy. I took the elements that I really liked and tailored it to my skin, eye shape + colour, etc (as you should with all makeup looks – everyone is different!). By the end of the video, I realized that I had created a version of my ideal bridal makeup – bronzed, defined but soft and quite neutral.

Thank you guys so much for your enthusiastic support with these videos! I am having the best time brainstorming + filming them. I have so many ideas that I’ve decided to do at least one video a week (a new one every Wednesday!) so stay tuned 🙂 As always, all the products are listed in the video and linked below.

Love this look! I would even use it as an every day look. You have convinced me to try Charlotte Tilbury glow.

It looks gorgeous! I had asked on your Instagram about doing a bridal makeup look and you directed me to it 🙂 So I have questions.
What type of wedding will yours be? Day? Evening?
Mine will be a day tropical beach wedding.
Do you have any concerns about products that will cause flashback? I got the Laura Mercier radiance primer as well and the Laura Mercier candle glow. Both have Mica I believe, I’m not sure how much of a concern they will be. I got the Laura Mercier loose setting powder because it is supposed to be the best for weddings but I would rather have purchased the Charlotte tilbury powder compact.
I did have the same Charlotte tilbury eyeshadow quad and it looks gorgeous the way you did it kinda makes me regret returning it but I’m doing more watercolor spring colors so I got the Mac smokey eye palette for the peach tones.
I will do a shadow liner like you did and no falsies as well so the mascara tip was great. I always have mascara smudges under my eyes at the end of the day. Any tips?
Your tutorials are lovely. I love the lighting and the background. Holding your hand up to the product really helps to see the color love that and the best part you have such a great personality very elegant and chic but then funny.
    Thanks!

Hi Kelly! Lovely to hear from you. Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

To answer your questions: mine will also be a day beach wedding. I am definitely aware of the flashback issue, but I also want to look glowy. As far as I know (and I’m not a makeup artist), the biggest issue with flashback comes from sunscreen, so I would try to stay away from that if possible. If you have concerns about it, just take a photo of yourself in bright light with the product. I haven’t tried the Laura Mercier candle glow or setting powder so I can’t speak to those, but I do know that the brightening powder is not a good idea as it has light reflecting pigments, so be sure to stay away from that.

To look glowy, use a shimmery (not sparkly) powder and only apply it on your cheekbones, a little down your nose, on the top of your lip and in your inner corner (I show you in my brightening tutorial here: http://bit.ly/2hTelv3). Make sure you’re not putting any directly under your eyes, beside your nose, on your chin or even on your forehead as it can really easily look greasy.

In terms of mascara smudging, I also have this issue and have found that using a tube mascara (like this one: http://bit.ly/2jeWS2v) on the bottom lashes really helps since it coats the lashes with tubes and then doesn’t smudge or run. I won’t wear full falsies, but I will probably do small trios of lashes on my outer corners for extra definition (like these ones: http://bit.ly/2irU6Kf).

Thank you for your sweet comment and let me know if you have any other questions! I will probably do another tutorial option/test closer to the wedding date 🙂

      xx Jill

What brand is the black nail polish you wear in most of your photos/videos?

It’s Vinyllux by CND in Dark Dahlia! http://bit.ly/2hVCNAK

It’s my fav 🙂 It dries super fast and lasts longer than normal nail polish, but you can remove it with regular polish remover.

I love your makeup tutorials!!!!! They are so effortless and pretty! I use powder foundation so I like finding tutorials that don’t use a liquid foundation. My skin however, tends to be pretty greasy, so I was wondering if the Laura Mericier primer you use and the Jane Iredale powder are products you would recommend for oily skin? Also I looove how the Charlotte tillburry bronze goes on, and was considering trying a dupe for it (w7 hollywood bronze and glow) and wondered if you had any comments on it!
    Thanks!

Thanks Mary! I have an oily T-zone and definitely find the primer + powder to be a good combo. I may have to touch up with the powder during the day as well, just because I’m quite oily. I don’t have any info on the bronzer dupe, but I do love the Charlotte Tilbury bronzer! If you try it, let me know your thoughts!

Gorgeous! I also just recently got engaged so it’s fun to following along with your wedding planning.

Love, love Jane Iredale in golden glow. A little too tanned for me in winter, but my favorite shade for summer! Will have to check out Charlotte Tilbury now too.

Love this look so much! This was really helpful. Just wondering- I am not personally a fan of shimmery shadow for myself (though it looks amazing on you here) do you have any suggestions for a similar look but with matte shadows? Thanks! <3
