hair how to: beachy waves

I’ve had quite a few requests for a hair how-to over the last little while. My hair is fine and basically needs to be washed at least every other day, which is also why I wear a lot of hats. I hate washing my hair because of the process that must happen afterwards. But to be honest, it only takes me about 10 minutes to do this routine (and even that is pushing it for me… now you know how low my patience level is).

I like a rod curling iron best (I got mine from Winners years ago and it’s my favourite; although the wand design isn’t…) Any straightener will do. My absolute favourite hairspray is Elnett and I use it all the time. If you need a little extra lift or a little less grease, Pssst dry shampoo is the best.. and it’s cheap too! hair tutorial, how to, wavy hair, beachy hair, ombre, fashion blogger, blog1

1. Start with clean, dry hair and part into sections. I make 4 sections, (1 on each side, 2 in the back), but it depends on how thick your hair is. I like curling larger sections of hair because it makes for a less contrived and perfected wave.

2. Spray each section with hairspray before you curl; I find this helps keep the curl longer. Twist hair around a vertical curling iron and hold for about 30 seconds. Keep the hair curled as you pull out the iron from below and then clip the section into place. I usually keep the clips in for at least 10 minutes (or however long it takes me to do my makeup).

Tip: Curl away from your face on either side and in opposite directions in the back. I leave out my bangs (or longer layers) and blow them out with a round brush instead of using a curling iron.

3. Take out the clips once hair is fully cooled and flip head upside-down. Shake out curls gently (or more forcefully if you like a messy look- which I do) and then spray with hairspray.

4. Straighten the ends of your hair (up to about an inch) with your straightener. Do the back sections, underneath and all of your layers. Make sure there are no curled ends as that can make you look a bit like Shirley Temple.
