6 STEPS TO GET READY FOR A WEDDING EVENT

When I was a teenager, I became obsessed with beauty. It started with my first issue of Allure (Kate Moss was, fittingly, on the cover) and snowballed from there. I would tear out magazine pages, plot makeovers, and dream up new hair + makeup looks. One thing I loved to do was set out a to-do list for an upcoming event. Maybe it was going back to school? Or a birthday party of a crush… either way, I relished the beauty steps leading up to that event, almost more so than the actual event.

And here we are again! Our engagement party in Vancouver is coming up very quickly and I’m again reveling in the beauty to-do’s leading up to the big event.

1. HAIR CUT + COLOUR

A fresh cut and colour can do wonders, but make sure you leave ample time before the event. I find it always takes at least a week or two for my hair to settle in. And if, god forbid, something were to happen (we’ve all had a bad colour or cut 🙁 ), you need some time to fix it.

2. FACIAL

This is more about doing something relaxing, so you could get a massage instead of a facial – just do something to unwind. Either service will make your skin glow and will make you feel great.
PS if you’re going to get a facial, make sure you do so a few weeks before the event. And don’t try a new facialist! You don’t want to break out or have a reaction.

3. TEETH WHITENING

This one is big since your smile is the first thing that people notice about you. I’ve been using Crest 3D White Whitestrips Supreme Flexfit for the past few weeks and have noticed such a difference (many of you have even commented on it and asked what I’m doing!). I’m going to continue my regimen until our engagement party in mid-May and then will only have to do a quick touch up before the wedding next year as the results last for 12+ months.

4. HEADSPACE

I truly believe that the happiest people are the most beautiful and so, as many of you have learned over the past few months, I’m making a conscious effort to create a routine that cultivates happiness and positivity. Headspace is an app with a guided meditation (only 10 minutes each day) that encourages relaxation and eases anxiety. Plus, Andy’s voice is soooo soothing. Wedding events are stressful and it’s important to take some time for self-care so you can remember what matters (NOT the flowers hah!) and really enjoy the experience.

5. MANI + PEDI

I just feel cleaner and more put together when my nails are done. I normally do my own mani and treat myself to a pedicure, but however you do it, take the time to get your digits buffed and painted. It can almost ruin a photograph (for me, at least) if your nails are chipped – especially if you’ve got a beautiful ring on your finger.

6. SELF-TANNER

A tan makes everyone look better, and a fake one is the safest. Find a product that works best for you (I am loving the Vita Liberata line, especially the Dry Oil Self-Tan) and use it every few days in the weeks leading up to your big event. Be sure to apply it with an applicator glove for even application.

Am I the only one who loves beauty to-do lists? Do you guys have any must-have beauty steps?

Hi Jill! Can you tell me how frequently and for how long (during each wear) you use the strips? I know some people use one set for 30 min to 45 min and that’s all for a period of time. Others use a set each day for a week, for example. What do you do and would recommend? Thanks!

          Hi Lesley,

So I would start out wearing them for less time than they say, because tooth sensitivity is normal with whitening strips. I can do mine for about 30 mins. I would use them for a for a few days to a week and see if you need them for longer. Honestly, it’s all about what you need! Then you can use them for touch ups… although the results last for quite a while.

          Hope that’s helpful!

          xx Jill
