easy NYE hair how-to

I’ve never been a big up-do person. Just the word “up-do” makes me cringe and think of big, overly teased bouffants. This is about as close as I get to an up-do and its basically an undone low ponytail. I usually like a more messy and undone look to juxtapose a formal NYE outfit. Follow along with these 4 easy steps… it shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes (insert thumbs-up emoji).

1. Curl random sections of hair- this is mostly for texture. I do 3 big sections (2 sides, 1 back) because my hair is quite fine; you will have to do more smaller sections if you have thick hair. Make sure you curl the front pieces away from your face.

2. Tousle your hair. You can flip your head over and do this as well. I like mine quite messy.

3. Tease the crown and around your part for height.

4. Pin back your hair, as if you were doing a messy, very loose ponytail with bobby pins. Be sure not to pull down on the sections you teased (ie. the crown). I keep the front sections out for a softer look. Spray with hair spray to finish.

The back should look a bit like this, but this style is very adaptable so play with it if you like.

I’ve also done a super easy 5-minute smokey eye tutorial that is perfect for New Year’s Eve. I’m not the biggest New Years fan and will spending it making a lovely dinner with my boyfriend (follow along on Instagram @theaugustdiaries to see my kitchen escapades/disasters).

Wishing you and your loved ones the happiest of New Years!

This is a hairstyle I think I can pull off! I also cringe when I hear “you should try an undo”!
