CARRY ON PACKING 101

I remember reading a quote by DVF about how the more you learn about yourself, the better you become at packing; I tend to agree. The older I get and the more I learn about what I need/want on trips, the better I get at packing. I recently went to Florida for 6 days and went with only a carry on (this is kind of unheard of for me!). I thought I would take you through my carry on packing 101 with a video – it’s easier to explain and to try on some pieces for you.

I’m also off to Palm Springs for my Bachelorette on Friday (EEK!) and will be bringing similar items.

To save space I always:

1. Wear my bulkiest items

2. Roll all clothing when putting them in my suitcase

3. Make good use of travel size products and samples to keep toiletries to a minimum

4. Pack small things like bikinis and tops in purses so they keep their shape and to save space

I’ve also put together a packing list to keep/pin for your next trip – I hope this is helpful! If you have any tips to add, please do so in the comments!

    Hi Jill!

Can you tell us about luggage you use? I am actually in the market for a new large suitcase and would love to hear your thoughts carry-on or otherwise!

    xoxo Emily

I love your style videos, Jill! This is one is so helpful. Do you think it is possible to pack for 10 days in Italy in a carry on? I get so paranoid about loosing my luggage;( and I’m determined to bring just a carry on this time. Do you have any recs for a carry on suitcase?
BTW, I love that little dress, and I’m now craving an Aritzia hoodie!!!! Yours look so comfy.
    XO! Gina

    Hi Jill,

I travel for work a lot and I always struggle to find the best way to pack my makeup and toilteries. What do you use or recommend?

    Thanks,
    Lefiola

Ugh so do I! Travel sizes make a big difference, especially if you’re not going for more than a few days. I like the get clear toiletry bags so you can see what’s in them and do one for hair and one for skin.

Hi! I love your site and have actually started following your skincare routine, with AMAZING results! XX

I am heading to New York in a couple of weeks (mid-October) and was wondering if you have any tips on how to pack for that? I love this guide, and definitely ALWAYS catch myself packing WAY too much. What would you suggest bringing for a few days sight-seeing?

    Thanks SO much!

I’m so happy to hear that! Jealous you’re going to New York… it’s the best! Definitely bring something comfortable and breathable as it will probably be hot (make sure to check the weather). I would bring 1 pair of pants that can be dressed up or down, 1 pair of shorts (ditto), 2 tops and a dress. 2 pairs of shoes should be fine (one comfy for walking – walking the city is the best!). Sunglasses are a must!

      Have so much fun!

      xx Jill
