safari dress

I kind of wish I would have washed my hair before shooting these photos… But it was a weekend and an impromptu photoshoot with my mom (see yesterday’s post for a mother-specific shoutout)… And you can’t win em all. I actually hate washing my hair because I hate styling it. I’ve got it down to a 15-min science, but I’m the laziest person ever and try to get away with washing my hair as little as possible (which does not bode well for fine hair…).

Anyway, enough about hair, let’s talk fashion. The first time I saw this dress I thought of that iconic photo of Veruschka and Yves Saint Laurent’s affinity for all things safari. I went with the 1970’s vibe (as I always do) and channelled Yves himself with the neck scarf. I know that spring + summer are all about light colours, but I like that this dress is darker and more muted. It shows off a tan and will look chic into the fall.

PS As a follow up to my scarf video, I was curious if you guys would like a tutorial on how to tie the neck scarf… I’m definitely adding more video content (including a hair tutorial video!) so please let me know in the comments 🙂

Is that dress seriously from Joe Fresh? If so, I need to pop down to Loblaws this afternoon. Always looking lovely, Jill!

This one is from Vero Moda at Simon’s but it’s not available online so I linked to a similar one!

I love the neck scarf with the safari dress. And I’m pretty lazy with my hair on a daily basis. I would love to wear it wavy all the time but I tend to wash it every morning and leave it unless I have to do something lmao. It’s also a struggle because I like to air dry my hair before styling it. So when you have work in the morning, it’s like, “Damn it. I can’t do this anymore.”

Je ne sais quio… that’s what comes to mind with this shoot. You’ve got it, girl. Just stunning in a way that, if somebody put this exact look on, it wouldn’t have the same effortlessly gorgeous appeal. So good! About the hair…it still looks amazing. I wouldn’t have known you were trying to hide dirty hair. My thought was…gosh, she totally rocks a low messy bun and I want a tutorial. Seriously. I don’t wash my hair often at all, because it is so long and thick and when I feel like it’s dirty everybody tells me it’s gorgeous… so, I understand the feeling.
Yes, I would love a neck scarf tutorial. I just snagged a couple over at Madewell and that Aritzia one has been in my cart for weeks now, and I’m thinking…these things will arrive and I won’t be able to master the tie.
Those boots are killer, BTW. I love Jeffrey Campbell!

You look great! I know how you feel about having to wash and style your hair (from a fellow lazy girl).
    Love the safari dress.
